An open pollinated Romanesco variety producing reasonable mid-green coloured heads. Not as uniform as the hybrid versions. All cauliflowers need a neutral or slightly alkaline soil to do well. If the soil is too acidic, the plants will be unable to obtain all the trace elements they need, and may develop whiptail. On the other hand, soils which are too limey or chalky can lead to stunted and discoloured cauliflower. Leave at least six weeks between liming and manuring. As with all brassicas, avoid using a plot on which a brassica crop was grown within the past two years. Cauliflowers will definitely suffer if they are grown on the same plot for two or more years in a row. Sow in mid spring either under glass or outdoors for autumn cropping. Sow in individual pots or a seed tray of good seed compost and cover with 6mm (¿in) of compost or vermiculite, at a minimum of 15C (60F), until germination which takes around 7 days.
Alternatively, can be sown thinly in a prepared seed bed 13mm (¿in) deep, allowing 30cm (12in) between rows.
Transplant when large enough to handle into boxes and grow on in cooler conditions for 10-15 days before planting out 60 x 60cm (24 x 24 inch) apart in rich, well cultivated, moisture retentive soil. For outdoor sowing, transport the seedlings to their final quarters when they have two or three leaves.
