"Sorrow Floats": A lament for the forgotten.
The atrocities of South Sudan's civil war and Palestine's ethnic cleansing have become a haunting norm. As an artist, I am compelled to confront the horrors that plague our modern world. This series is a testament to the resilience of women, who bear the brunt of conflict, and a tribute to the countless lives reduced to mere statistics.Through these works, I aim to capture the muted screams, the silenced cries, and the faces of the displaced.
The turbulent skies, inspired by Vincent van Gogh's swirling brushstrokes in "The Starry Night", are a deliberate choice. The deep blues and neon yellows evoke an electric sense of tension, yet amidst the chaos, a glimmer of hope persists. The moon, a recurring presence in these works, symbolizes the quiet strength of the human spirit. Alongside the stars, it represents the whispers of the forgotten, their cries heard and felt despite the overwhelming silence. I choose not to title each piece, honoring the hundreds of thousands stripped of their names, their identities reduced to 'refugee.
This is my attempt to immortalize the injustices of our time, to ensure that the pain and grief of the forgotten.
