Shaving scuttles first became popular in the days before running water. The early 'open top' designs allowed the user to carry a store of hot water and soap with them as the shaved. Technology (and modern plumbing) has changed our lives and this is our modern take on the traditional shaving scuttle.

The scuttles have a double wall design allowing you to pour hot water into the reservoir (outer bowl) via the spout. This heats up the inner bowl keeping your lather and brush warm while you shave. The dimensions of the inner bowl (11 cm wide by 5.5 cm deep) are the same as our stainless steel lathering bowls. The inner bowl also has special lather ridges which allow you to work up a lather much faster. Shaving gets a whole lot more luxurious with warm lather (especially on the chilly winter mornings). Warming up your lather also opens up the scent much more.

Each scuttle is one of a kind - locally hand made by an award winning master potter / craftsman Peter Mthombeni. The terra cotta glaze finish on this scuttle is beautiful. With due care and attention, this kiln-fired scuttle will last a lifetime (or more!). The spout ofthe scuttle has been designed to take a cork (if needed), and there is a small breather hole near the handle to stop any air locks or vacuums in the scuttle.

Usage tips:

The scuttle is is best used by placing it on top of a small towel on a flat counter top. This is allows the scuttle to stay stable and the water inside will not slosh around or spill as you work your cream / soap.
Always be safe with hot water, when handling your scuttle.
