A very beautiful and rather special item. I have tried to find as much information as possible and any help will be most welcome!

It is a ceramic wine bottle from Kinmen in Northern China - Taiwan. It held Kaoliang - a liquor made from sorghum - a rather strong brew at 58% alcohol.

The stopper has been lost somewhere ...

This particular bottle was made at the Kinmen ceramic factory which is known for their artistic ceramic vases. It commemorates the late president Chiang Kai-Shek (1887 - 1975) on his birthday which was a tradition.

The picture shows Chiang Kai-Shek as a young man in his late 30's which is not an indication of the age of the bottle.

I guess this bottle was made after the Camphor monopoly law was cancelled in the early 1960's and before his death in 1975.

On the bottle neck there are the remnants of two stickers - tax and the Tobacco and wine Monopoly bureau. Above that sticker there is a small hairline crack in the glaze. Otherwise the bottle is in beautiful mint condition.

This is a truly lovely item.
