Ruby, the red variety of corundum, is the most expensive gemstone after diamonds. The distinctive rubies of "pigeons blood" colour from Burma, especially from the Mogok mines, have the highest value. Spicemens over 5 ct, as well as eye clean stones, are very rare. Heat treatment is usually applied to improve colour and remove small inclusions. Due to the increasing scarcity and prices of Burmese rubies, this could be one of the best investments you have ever made!
