'In October 1394, King T'aejo, the founder of the Yi Dynasty, moved his capital to Hanyang, now Seoul, and King Chongjong, his successor, returned to the former capital, Kaesong, ... . But Y'aejong, the third king of the Yi Dynasty, decided to move the capital to Hanyang again and commissioned Lee Jik and Shin Kuk-lye to supervise work on his places in Seoul, in September, 1404.

It was then that this splendid palace, call "Ch'angdokkung", was constructed ...'
