The main story and goal of this Auction...
On 22 October, SA Surfing Icon and current Women’s ISA World Champion, Heather ‘Fergi’ Clark was the victim of a severe car accident in her hometown of Port Shepstone, on the KZN South Coast.
The tragic accident was the result of an alleged drunk driver smashing into Fergi’s car and tearing it in two. Heather sustained major life-threatening injuries and needed the best timely medical care as a result. Thanks to fast action by paramedics allowing surgeons to operate during the ‘golden hour’ after the accident Heather’s life was spared. Miraculously she is recovering and up-beat about the future, although has no recollection of the accident itself. Although far from surfing again her goal is to get back in the water as soon as possible.
The unfortunate news is that Heather in now in major medical debt, due to her not having medical insurance. As we all know, medicine and medical care is not cheap, and the ongoing re-habilitation is an immense financial burden on the Clark’s. The surfing community around South Africa – and the world - have stepped in graciously and kicked off satellite initiatives to aid Heather in her financial responsibilities. Zigzag Surfing Magazine and Hurley South Africa have partnered up and launched the ‘Fergi Auction fund raiser’ as our small way to help Ferg out.
From the 5th to the 16th of November we are Auctioning off Hurley team rider, Rob Machado’s SA signature Biscuit model surfboard. Shaped by world famous Al Merrick, from Channel Islands Surfboards, we have also thrown in Award winning Phantom P120 Boardshorts and a Hurley One and Only Tee for the person with the highest bid over R2000. All proceeds go straight to Heather. And the winning bidder will be published in the next issue of Zigzag on sale over Christmas.
We all want to see Ferg smacking the lip once again. So be generous enough to bid generously on behalf of aiding our SA Surf icon to get back in the water.
