What a delightful pair! These are a charming set of vintage wooden salt and pepper shakers, dating from the 1960s to 1970s and made in Japan. Each one measures approximately 2.2cm in diameter and stands 5cm tall. They're clearly hand-made and hand-painted, designed to resemble whimsical figures, perhaps chefs or cooks, with one wearing a white hat and the other a red one.
You can see on the back of one shaker a label that reads "FINE QUALITY WOOD CRAFT HAND MADE," which speaks to their artisanal origin. They have that lovely aged look that comes with vintage wood, showing some minor wear to the painted details, which simply adds to their character. The stoppers at the bottom appear to be made of cork, typical for shakers of this era.
These types of shakers were quite popular as decorative kitchenware or novelty items back in the day. They'd make a super addition to a vintage kitchen collection, or simply bring a touch of old-world charm and quirkiness to any home.
