The Gold Anchor period of Chelsea was from 1756 - 1759.

MAN WITH TOPHAT, TAILS & UMBRELLA

Gold Anchor Mark.

Traditionally associated with the Chelsea factory during the 1760's, this mark remained in use during the Chelsea Derby period following the take-over of the Chelsea factory by Derby c1770. Originally thought to have been restricted to the very early years of the Chelsea Derby period, the research of Society President Sir Stephen Mitchell now suggests the mark may have continued in use right through to the closure of the Chelsea factory in 1783.

Unfortunately the gold anchor was/is the most copied and forged of the different Chelsea marks. Gold couldn't take the high temperatures that the kiln required, so the mark had to be applied on top of the glaze instead of under it like in the past. For forgers, this was a dream come true and a nightmare to every future collector. Since they no longer had to manipulate the glaze to get their forgery mark on it, they could just paint right on top and forgeries spiked.
