 As  described in the Stephan Weltz catalogue of October 2017.  Weltz valued it at between 4000-6000 Rands. Purchased in Amsterdam in 1917 with accompanying verification.

A Chinese Hexagonal Cloisonné Vase, Qing Dynasty

  • The untested alloy body, presumably bronze, decorated with six panels each depicting a phoenix in flight, rendered in polychrome enamel.
  • The surrounding surfaces, aside from the shoulder, foot and mouth rings, cast and chased with archaic designs
  • The base with impressed (not cast) script
  • No visible traces of earlier fire gilding
  • Later stabilising repair to the interior foot rim
  • Estimate: R4 000 – R 6 000 (Reserve: R3600)
