Chinoiserie 'Slop' Bowl Hilditch and Son Circa 1822-1830. Ref.B.8
Description: Porcelain 'Slop' Bowl for tea. Shows the "C" Scroll Pattern. This is an underglaze Chinoiserie transfer design in a brick red color, with overglaze hand coloring in green, yellow, blue enamels.
Maker: Hilditch and Son showing the rare Hilditch backstamp.
Date: 1822-1830
History: A short lived (1822-1830) and purely Georgian manufacturer of earthenwares and porcelain at Lane End in North Staffordshire. Fine quality porcelain tea wares were a speciality and reflect the chinoiserie taste of the time.
Marks/Observations: Three vignettes on the bowl showing a farmer ploughing, a man showing a flower to a child holding a parasol, and the third of a dancing dog and a boy holding bells over its head.
Condition: Excellent, no sign of restoration, no evidence of wear
