The Smokie sound was characterised by Chris Normans trademark husky, soulful voice and they still enjoy a special standing in the music business today. Smokie had their breakthrough hit with If you think you know how to love me and stormed the charts with unforgettable songs like Living next door to Alice and Lay back in the arms of someone.
In the mid 80s Chris Norman left Smokie and has since been pursuing his very successful solo career. His probably biggest success as a solo artist was the song Midnight Lady, which was a massive hit throughout Europe holding the number one
spot in Germany for six weeks.
