Anna Christine Marais is one of Namibia's top artists. She was born in Bloemfontein and devoted seven years of her career (1979-86) to a series on German Colonial Architecture.
She gained a B.A. in Fine Art at Wits studying under Cecily Sash, Charles Argent, Joyce Leonard, Heather Martienssen and Erica Berry and won the Herbert Evans prize for painting. She moved to SWA/ Namibia in 1970 after teaching art in Johannesburg and started living permanently in Swakopmund in 1976.
She wrote and illustrated a trilogy of highly desirable books on German colonial architecture: Swakopmund Our Heritage (1979), Luderitz Our Heritage (1981) and Windhoek Our Heritage ( 1986). She is also co-author of Namib Flora (1986).
This superbly painted hand signed and dated panorama is a wonderful rendition of her first love: the architecture of Swakopmund.
