A lovely French 950 silver goblet or champaign cup made by acclaimed firm Christoffle and used as boxing trophy during the Great War.. The vesset measures 9.5cm in diameter at the top and stands 10.5cm high. It weighs 133 grams and is in good condition. There is a slight distortion to the round at the top of the cup and a few deep scratches inside the cup, but the foot sits solidly and it stands straight. No nasty dents or knocks. It is inscribed SAI Bde. Boxing. Light-wt winner. No7672 Pte CW Green. France 23/2/18 2nd SAI. For a military boxing tournament presumably held while South African forces were fighting in France during the World War 1. A lovely item from acclaimed makers and with historic interest.
