DESCRIPTION:

An off-white glazed china small milk jug, decorated with a traditional cobalt blue and
white transfer-printed Old Willow design. It tells the story of a rich man's daughter who
falls in love with her father's assistant. The father disapproves of the relationship and bans
the assistant from the house, forcing them to elope. When they are found, the assistant is
killed. The daughter sets fire to the house, dying in the flames. They reunite in death as
two birds, seen at the top of the design. The eponymous willow symbolises sadness.

MARKS:

Lion Sphinx, Churchill and England.

CONDITION:

No chips, cracks or crazing, with glazing imperfection to base of interior (see close-up image).

DIMENSIONS:

Approximately 8.5cm diameter excluding spout and handle X 9cm height.
