A fine quality Arts and Crafts silver-plated comport with decorated circular base and dish supported by 4 organic form stems. The base is stamped "EP NS" (electroplated nickel silver), "1/0" (silver content) and "as" (antique silver finish). These marks were typically used by "WMF" (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) circa 1900-1910.
The Arts and Crafts movement was an international trend in the decorative and fine arts that flourished in Europe and North America between about 1880 and 1920. It is the root of the Modern Style.
The core characteristics of the Arts and Crafts movement are a belief in craftsmanship which stresses the inherent beauty of the material, the importance of nature as inspiration, and the value of simplicity, utility, and beauty.
Condition : Slight tarnishing to the dish interior and some light scratches here and there. Overall good antique condition. A fine display piece and important collectible.
