Description :
The Cisco 1600 R routers (1601 R 1602 R 1603 R 1604 R) are essentially the same as the original models (1601-1604) but they are run-from-RAM routers similar to the Cisco 1605 R. The Cisco 1600 R models deliver all the features and benefits of the original models including the same interfaces the same functionality the same feature sets the same versions of IOS and have the same physical dimensions. What's different is simply the memory architecture. In the run-from-RAM routers software is stored in Flash memory and executed from RAM. The original Cisco 1601-1604 routers are run-from-Flash where software is both stored in and executed from Flash memory. The Cisco 1600 R models have three key benefits over the original versions. The first is increased performance for memory-intensive applications such as encryption and compression. The second benefit is improved system availability: the Cisco 1600 R routers permit software upgrades over any interface while the router is running. And third is lower cost: because the Cisco 1600 R models store the software in compressed form in Flash memory less Flash memory is required to run advanced feature sets (such as Cisco 1600 series IOS IP PLUS).
