Botanical name: Cymbopogon nardus
Citronella has therapeutic properties as an antiseptic, deodorant, insecticide, parasitic, tonic and as a stimulant. It has excellent insecticide properties. Most commercial repellents contain Citronella. It is often combined with Cedarwood to produce a pleasant smelling natural insect repellent. Also used in soaps and candles and used for common applications in massage. Citronella can be used for minor infections, but is more commonly known for its ability to assist in combating colds and flu. Citronella can also be used for excessive perspiration and for conditioning oily skin and hair.
Bath Water: Add 4 - 6 drops to your bathwater. Lie and relax for at least 15 - 20 minutes.
Candle Burner: Fill the candle burner with water or coarse sea salt. Add 4 - 6 drops to the water or sea salt and enjoy the aroma.
Other: Add 5 drops to 10 ml of carrier oil or aqueous lotion and use for massage or apply to skin to keep mosquitoes away.
Essential oils can also be blended with other essential oils but do not exceed the number of drops of oil used.
