A tea trio by Royal Staffordshire in the “Rural Scenes” pattern designed by the famous Clarice Cliff. The cup, saucer and cake plate each has a border depicting agricultural implements and products, with a central panel painted in autumnal colours depicting a scene from country life. Each piece has a different scene, and the cup another one on the inside, so that the trio as a whole features four different scenes of English rural life. Clarice Cliff designed this pattern towards the end of her career, and this particular trio was likely produced in the late 1940s or 1950s.
All three pieces are in very good condition with no chips or cracks. Both the cup and side plate are covered with crazing, which is slightly stained in places on the cup. There is some very minor pattern loss on parts of the borders, while both the plate and the saucer have stilt marks at the back, as is to be expected of pieces from this era.
Dimensions: The cup measures about 9.3 cm across (excluding the handle) and is 5.5 cm high. The diameter of the saucer is about 14.5 cm and its height 1.8 cm. The cake plate is about 16 cm across.
