VINTAGE WWII 'SWEETHEART' 9CT YELLOW GOLD RING FEATURING A RICH RED GARNET
FLANKED BY 2 x SMALL DIAMONDS. WELL HALLMARKED. 9CT
This well-crafted vintage piece is 9ct yellow gold, featuring an oval-faceted, 5mm long x 4mm wide, garnet in a rich, deep red, set flush in the centre of the highly polished, softly domed ring head, with a design almost like the rays of the sun coming from it, cut into the smooth gold. Flanking the garnet are two small, round cut diamonds, also flush-set, but with a matching star-like design etched around the diamond. A flat, narrow shank widens to meet the ?mm width of the ring head. The shank bears a scalloped design on the shoulders, giving a wing-like effect at the point where the ring head joins the shank. The pedigree of the piece is evident in it's many hallmarks: the jeweller's signature, '375' indicating 9ct gold, and the Birmingham Assay Mark. The date 1939 appears, so this is most likely a WWII 'sweetheart' ring. The design is a classic of the time and of the 'Sweetheart' love token - always diamonds (for ever-lasting) and always a red stone - either a ruby or a garnet for love. The ring head measures ?mm long x ?mm wide, and the piece weighs a good 2,5 grams, sitting comfortably on the finger.
Ring measurements: ?mm wide x ?mm long Weight: 2,5 grams Ring size: 6 1/4 ('M 1/2' in British or SA sizing)
