Hand made clay sculpture of village lady carrying her baby on her back in the traditional way  wrapped in a blanket

52 cm in height and 30cm wide from elbow to elbow

The clay is from Malawi .This sculpture is hand made and wood fired in an open flame in the old traditional way.The sculpted piece is placed on an open section of ground & wood is packed around it & then set alight and this is how this piece of art was fired.

The artist :Harry Kapatika

Born:Malawi 13.03.1965

Background of artist:From the age of 9 years Harry learnt by watching the traditional art of clay sculpting from his grandfather. He comes from the village of Machinjiri which is in the southern district of Zomba

Harry  is inspired when  has visions of these peoples faces in his subconscious

He currently resides in Cape Town & goes  to Malawi  a few times a year from where he still  sources his clay

The statue is hand painted by Harry once i have chosen the ones that appeal to me

His pieces make wonderful gifts i have had clients take them back to the  USA,Australia & the UK .
