The most important requirement for successful cultivation is a well-drained, humus-rich, permanently cool soil with good water retention. Prune old twiggy growth in spring and propagate the species from seeds sown in spring. Clematopsis scabiosifolia commonly known as Pluimbossie in Afrikaans and Feather Duster in English is a very attractive shrub that grows to 1m in height. It forms annual shoots from a woody rootstock and is covered with silvery hairs. It has pinnate leaves & pink drooping Clematis-like scented flowers during summer. Clematis kirkii, Clematis villosa var. kirkii and Clematopsis kirkii are all synonyms for Clematopsis scabiosifolia. |
