Cleopatras Needle Kango Grotte Grahamstown Ostrich Egg Signed Angie RSA With Attached Stand No 3 of 4 Eggs on Auc
ON AUCTION IS AN OSTRICH EGG WITH KANGO GROTTE GRAHAMSTOWN SKETCH SIGNED ANGIE RSA. THIS EGG COMES WITH A SMALL ATTACHED WOODEN DISPLAY STAND.
CANGO CAVES' VAN ZYL'S HALL CONTAINS A HUGE 10-METER-HIGH STALAGMITE KNOWN AS CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE. THE HALL ITSELF IS NAMED AFTER ITS DISCOVERER, JACOBUS VAN ZYL WHO EXPLORED THE HALL IN 1780 AND FOUND A LARGE STALAGMITE WITHIN IT. The Cango Caves are Africa's largest show caves, located near Oudtshoorn in South Africa and formed by the erosion of ancient dolomitic limestone over millions of years. Home to massive halls and towering stalactites and stalagmites, the caves are a geological wonder with a rich history, serving as a shelter for ancient peoples and later becoming South Africa's oldest tourist attraction.
The caves are estimated to be about 20 million years old, though the dramatic dripstone formations began forming only about 3 million years ago. The caves are formed within a dolomitic limestone ridge. Acidic groundwater dissolved the limestone, creating a vast network of chambers and passages.
Evidence suggests that early humans sheltered in the Cango Caves for over 80,000 years. The caves were "re-discovered" by a farmer named Jacobus Van Zyl in 1780, who stumbled upon their entrance. The Cango Caves are South Africa's oldest tourist attraction, becoming popular in the 1800s.
The caves feature huge halls, including Van Zyl's Hall, an enormous cavern 107 meters long, 54 meters wide, and 17 meters high. You can see an array of colorful, towering stalactites and stalagmites.
Visitors can choose between the Heritage Tour, a more leisurely guided walk, or the Adventure Tour, which involves climbing and squeezing through tight passages like the Devil's Chimney. NOTE I HAVE 4 DECORATIVE OSTRICH EGGS ON AUCTION THIS WEEK
