Finally, in 'Hang 'Em High,' (1967), set in Oklahoma, 1873, Jed Cooper (Eastwood) is mistaken for a murderous rustler and taken to be hanged by corrupt lawman Captain Wilson (Ed Begley). However, he survives the hanging and is rescued by a local sheriff. Cooper vows revenge upon Wilson and takes a job as a deputy sheriff, determined to restore law and order to Oklahoma.
