Eduard VAN ZURCK practised as an advocate at the Court of Holland from 1682. His Codex Batavus, in the form of a law dictionary, is an important work on Public, Private and Church law. It was quoted in many South African cases, most recently in the 1993 Cape Town case of Menzies et Uxor see Fontes Juris Part 3 LITERATURE Noted Volume 8 sv VAN ZURCK E, Codex Batavus. This is an original 1738 (Third) edition of the title.
Condition: Fair, all pages and binding intact, no loose pages. Some browning and foxing due to age. Browning on page edges.
All the page text is clearly legible throughout the book and the spine and binding is still in good condition, no loose pages at all. Loose inner front pages with minor separation, no pages are detached.The book has aged extremely well considering that it is 281 years old. Corners are rubbed, Spine title is worn, gilt edging is worn in places.
