COLLECTABLE JAN SMUTS TIN, 1940

This is a highly collectable tin depicting Jan Smuts on the lid. The tin was presented to the troops bearing chocolates at Christmas time in 1940. The text on the lid reads: “Greetings from South Africa; Groete van Suid Afrika; We rely on you and are grateful; Ons vertrou op jou en ons is dankbaar”. The text on the underside of the lid reads as follows: “With Best Wishes from The South African Gifts and Comforts Committee, Christmas, 1940; Met die Beste Wense van Die Suit Afrikaanse Komittee vir Geriewe en Geskenke, Kersfees, 1940”.The tin measures approximately 17,9 cm in length, is 11,4 cm in width and is approximately 2,5 cm in height. The tin is in fairly good condition.
