Offered for sale is a collectible small sculpture by South African born artist John Biccard from the " Biccard Collection" of animal and human studies. This item is made from a composite resin-like material usually referred to as " marble dust"  Biccard planned a collection of 22 scuptures in different sizes based on a set of caricature like drawings he produced and which was sold as cards. This is a small bulldog figurine called " Bobby" dressed as a British /London Metropolitan policeman. Bobby is 19th Century slang for a British policeman. Biccard has cleverly morphed the human and animal form with the bulldog being the quintissential  English dog breed. The artists JB monogram appears in the shield on the helmet worn by the bulldog. A blog on the internet by Dayne Skolmen provides fascinating information about the artist  Biccard and his very collectible sculpture collection. In brief he was born John Burnwood in 1941 however he used his mothers maiden name for his artistic works. He was a Capetonian from the winelands, had a studio in Church street Cape Town in the 70's and sold his work through Decor shops and Art galleries including a shop on the top of Table mountain as well as outlets at Sun City. His sculptures were in production from the 1970s to early 90's as the range expanded. This piece is in good condition except for  minor rubbing of the black paint used to pick out incised details on the scupture. Postage is R100 via Postnet or R140 for courier delivery to major cities in SA. Collection is welcome from Emmerantia JHB.
