Offered for sale is a rare Italian Midcentury Modern 1950's vintage ceramic/stoneware wall plaque/tile designed by Federico Fabbrini . This is a press moulded stoneware tile hand decorated with bright onglaze enamels. The tile is a rectangular shape with a decorative motif of an abstracted bird possibly a rooster which fills the entire surface of the tile. The bird form is raised from the surface of the tile with a tube lined outer border The rooster is white with colour accents of yellow ochre, brick red and umber as well as a pale turquoise blue against a dark royal blue/midnight blue background glaze. The tile has impressed marks on the back which read " Fabbrini" "made in Italy". Federico Fabbrini was born in Arezzo Italy in 1928 and died in 2007. He is a highly rated Italian 20th Century ceramic designer whose work is represented in major museums such as MOMA, The Museum of Modern Art in New York. As a young man he was apprenticed to Marcello Fantoni in Florence whose influence is apparent in his decorated wall plates featuring stylish fashionable young women and animals. He worked from his own studio in San Casciano near Florence from 1958 onwards and aslo collaborated with famous designers such as Franco Bucci and Nanni Valentini . From 1969-1973 he worked for the luxury porcelain manufacturer Villeroy and Boch in Belgium as a principal designer re-establsihing his own private studio in San Casciano Italy in 1973 where he worked until its closure in 1993.
