Offered for sale is an attractive Midcentury Modern slip cast ceramic vase in a vibrant turquoise/sea green coloured glaze attributed to the maker Silwood and probably dating to the 1950's. This is a medium sized vase with a squat, low bulbous body , generous round aperture and a flared convex collar. The vase is made from a white bodied clay either dipped or sprayed with a vibrant turquoise glaze. This is a good quality item with crisp clean lines and good definition on the foot ring; likewise the glaze is evenly applied and consistent without runs pops or bubbles which sometimes mar the output of studios like Lucia, BEP or Joy China. Silwood is a little known cermaic manufacturer which operated from Johannesburg from the 1920's until the 1960's. The company was initially based in Bramley in Silwood Road hence the company name and subsequenty moved to Kramerville Jhb.
