Offered for sale is a collectible and stylish Midcentury modern stoneware vase made by the company Lapid in Tel Aviv Jaffa Israel circa the 1960's. This is a small sized posy vase made from slip cast stoneware . The vase has a squat toggle shape with a round base and slightly flared upper rim. The body of the vase is a pale speckled oatmeal colour with a hand painted high contrast border on the upper and lower rim in a bright aquamarine blue. The base has a hand painted inscription with the manufactory name Lapid, country of origin Israel and the painters /decorators name. Lapid pottery midcentury designs were strongly influenced by high fashion Scandinavian and West German ceramic designs , typically having clean austere classical forms and tasteful modernist hand painted decor. Lapid pottery was established in 1944 and started producting art pottery decor items in 1949 under the auspices of Dr K Moosberg . The factory was small employing approximately 20 people at its height when it began exporting its high quality artistic items. Lapid closed in 1990. Little literature exists about the company however there is a Face Book page dedicated to Lapid authored by Kobi Klaitman whose father worked at the company.
