Offered for sale is a stylish and collectible Midcentury Modern post vase made by the iconic Swedish company Nittsjo Keramik . This is a small hand thrown earthenware vase made from a red terracotta clay glazed in a clear satin varnish with a hand painted motif of blue lozenges vertically aligned with rounded extremities accented by dots of cream coloured glaze. The vase has a pale wash of olive/khaki green over the bulbous body with vertical incisions into the clay. The base has hand painted numerals most likely the form and pattern numbers. Nittsjo is one of the oldest ceramic manufactories in Sweden still trading and was established in 1843. The company employed talented artists to design and decorated product ranges under the supervision of Jerk Werkmaster who was the long serving creative director of the company from 1933-1967.
