On sale is part of a collection of Minerals and Gemstones called Treasures of The Earth sold between 1995 -1999.
Ideal for collectors, students, budding geologists, etc. THIS LOT CONTAINS 19 ROCK AND MINERAL SAMPLES WITH SOME INTERESTING MINERALS EXPLAINED IN DETAIL BELOW: CONDITION: Some scratches but overall everything is in good condition. 1. FOOLS GOLD PYRITE: Pyrite is a brass-yellow mineral with a bright metallic luster. The name "pyrite"is after the Greek "pyr" meaning "fire." This name was given because pyrite can be used to create the sparks needed for starting a fire. Pyrite has a nickname that has become famous - "Fool'sGold." The mineral's gold color, metallic luster, and high specific gravity often cause it to be mistaken for gold by inexperienced prospectors. 2. COLOURFUL HEMATITE: Hematite is the most important ore of iron. The mineral is used to produce pigments. I was once mined at thousands of locations around the world. Hematite is a reddish iron oxide. 3. HONEY YELLOW TOPAZ:
Topaz is a rare silicate mineral. One of the world's favorite colored gemstones. The ancient Greeks believed that topaz has the power to increase strength and make its wearer invisible in times of emergency. 4. AESTHETIC SCHORL:
Called Black Tourmaline. It forms beautiful chrystals and is one of the most aesthetic black minerals known.
5. AMETHYST MOST POPULAR: Amethyst is the world's most popular purple gemstone. It is the purple color variety of quartz and has been used in personal adornment for over 2000 years. 6. DUMORTIERITE A RARE BLUE QUARTZ: Dumortierite quartz is one of the rarer and more unusual blue varieties of quartz gemstones. It is known to turn remarkably pure white in color when fired, it is often used for the production of porcelain and ceramics. 7. FLAKY BIOTITE: Biotite is a common group of phyllosilicate minerals within the mica group. Like other mica minerals, biotite has a highly perfect basal cleavage and consists of flexible sheets which easily flake off. ALSO SEE MY OTHER ITEMS.
