Collection of 5 Early Miner's Checks / Worker's Tool Check Tokens.
Miners would take a numbered tag from a board before going underground and replace it upon exiting, allowing the company to track who was in the mine. The tags often had the name of the coal mine and a personal number stamped on them. They could also serve as lamps or worker's tool checks, where a miner would exchange their personal tag for a specific tool or lamp. One is stamped "GM Chev" which was likely for the General Motors Chevrolet factory.
