Deutsch Ost-Afrika-Linie Wiegemarke / German East Africa Line Token, high catalogue value, rare.  Deutsche Kolonien ca. 1890 - 1905, W.L. / D.O.A.L., for the Woermann-Linie, Deutsch-Ost-Arika-Linie, Brass (approx. 4.28g).  The Woermann-Linie, founded on 15 June 1885 by Adolph Woermann, a German merchant, ship-owner and politician, instrumental in the establishment of the German colonies in Africa.

The German East Africa Company / Deutsch-Ostafrikanische Gesellschaft (DOAG) Bond.  500 Mark, German Reich currency, Berlin, 2 January, 1909, centre fold.  The DOAG originated in 1884 as the Gesellschaft für deutsche Kolonisation (Society for German Colonisation) with the aim of trading in Africa, and brought about the establishment of German East Africa.  In 1891, after it became apparent that the company could not handle its dominions, it sold out to the German government, which began to rule GEA directly.  These loans were used primarily to finance larger railway projects, such as the Usambara Railway and the acquisition of shares of the East Africa Railway.
