Jacob Hendrik Pierneef has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Iziko South African National Art Gallery and at the David Krut Projects, Cape Town. Numerous works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Extensive Landscape Northern Transvaal' sold at Strauss & Co., Cape Town 'Important South African Paintings, Furniture, Silver and Ceramics' in 2011 for $1,538,315. There have been Numerous articles about Jacob Hendrik Pierneef, including 'Pretoria 'Stickup Artists' Steal Paintings Worth R10-million' written by M Blackman for Artthrob in 2012. The artist died in 1957.
Pierneefs lino cuts cover a number of themes, from historic and famous buildings, farmsteads, wine cellars and landscapes, to his favourite subject, indigenous trees. He was also well-known for his portrayals of majestic cloud formations rising behind houses or mountain cliffs. Furthermore, Pierneef created lino cut designs for magazines, volumes of poetry, programmes, catalogs for his own exhibitions and various ex libris. In his approach to art, he firmly guarded against following European tendencies and styles he was dedicated to developing his own unique style.
