Rare Real Companhia Velha (Founded 268 years ago in 1756 by King Jose I of Portugal) 1967 Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) COLLECTORS PORT 2ND OF 3

THIS 1967 REAL COMPANHIA VELHA LBV (LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE) PORT WITH SEAL OF GUARANTEE NO CV 650703 IS A HIGHLY COLLECTABLE BOTTLE OF PORT FOR VARIOUS REASONS.

Firstly Real Companhia Velha, also known as Royal Oporto Wine Company, is steped in tradition and is at 268 years the oldest Port Wine company of Portugal. Founded in 1756 by a Royal Charter of King José I, King of Portugal, under the auspices of his Prime Minister the Marquis of Pombal.

Its fortified wines like Port has become famous the world over. In 1809 during the French invasion by Napoleon his troops requested wines from the Royal Company Vale which formed part of the soldiers rations.

In 1920 after WW1 the first vintage port was produced and was considered to be of excellent quality. In 1967 the first Late Bottled Vintage wine was produced. The 1967 Vintage was an Exceptional Year and after all these years is still rated the highest for this type of wine by Real Companhia Velha. An LBV Wine is a port that is kept longer in barrels before being bottled. Vintage Port is kept in wood for only twenty months or so before being transferred to the bottle where it will continue to age. Late Bottled Vintage, as the name suggests, is bottled later, remaining in wood between four and six years.

THIS HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER PORT BOTTLES WAS BOTTLED IN 1973 (AFTER AGING IN OAK BARRELS FOR 6 YEARS) IN A CHARACTERISTIC BLACK GLASS BOTTLE. THE BOTTLE IS STAMPED ON THE ONE SIDE REAL C VELHA 1967 LBV PORT

A MUST HAVE FOR THE COLLECTOR!
THE SEAL IS 100% AND THE LABELS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION AS PER IMAGES.
FORTIFIED WINES LIKE PORT IS A WINE TO WHICH A DISTILLED SPIRIT, IN THE CASE OF PORT ITS BRANDY, HAS BEEN ADDED. DUE TO THE FORTIFICATION THEY TEND TO AGE VERY WELL IN THE BOTTLE.

NOTE I HAVE 3 OF THESE 1967 REAL COMPANHIA VELHA COLLECTORS PORT BOTTLES FROM 1967 ON AUCTION THIS WEEK. THESE COLLECTORS PORTS DOES NOT COME UP ON AUCTION OFTEN AND THIS IS A RARE CHANCE TO TRY AND COLLECT A BOTTLE OR TWO.

SIZE: 30CM HIGH 8CM DIAMETER
VOLUME 750ML
ALCOHOL PERCENTAGE: 20%
SEAL OF GUARANTEE NO CV 650703

CONDITION: SEAL IS 100% AND LABELS AND BOTTLE IN GOOD CONDITION.
ALTHOUGH FORTIFIED WINES (A WINE TO WHICH A DISTILLED SPIRIT, USUALLY BRANDY, HAS BEEN ADDED) LIKE PORT ALMOST NEVER SPOIL WITH AGE, I CAN UNFORTUNATELY NOT GUARANTEE HOW DRINKABLE THIS WINE WILL BE. BUT MOST FORTIFIED WINES AGE VERY WELL IN THE BOTTLE AND DO NOT "GO OFF" AFTER A CERTAIN NUMBER OF YEARS. THEY JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER!

FORTIFIED WINES:
Fortification is the process of adding a grape spirit like brandy to wine during or after fermentation. The word fortify means to strengthen, reinforce, and protect. In wine terms, that means increasing the alcohol content, halting fermentation in some instances, and extending shelf life.
You might be wondering why someone would fortify wine in the first place. Well, back in the day before refrigeration and air-tight wine bottling was available, winemakers had to figure out a way to preserve their wine and prevent spoilage. As it turned out, adding distilled spirits to the wine did the trick.
There are 5 main types of fortified wine, each with their own special characteristics: Sherry, Port, Madeira, Marsala and Vermouth.
Hailing from Portugal, port wine gets its sweetness from brandy that is added before the fermentation process is finished. There are different styles of port like Tawny, Ruby and Rose produced by differences in alcohol percentage (16-20%) and time to age (garnet-hued nutty tawny is aged more than fruity ruby and pink rose)
Port is considered a digestif or dessert wine, and pairs perfectly with a range of dishes. For tawny and ruby port, try chocolate truffles, chocolate cake, or smoked cheeses. For the rosé or white ports, pair with strawberry angel food cake, stone fruit, or lemon.
