Comfrey

Red Comfrey (Symphytum rubrum) is a flowering plant from the borage family with delicate pink flowers. It is a perennial plant growing up to 45cm high. Comfrey will die down in winter but will grow again when the weather gets warmer. Water regularly and plant in full sun / semi-shade, ideal for under trees where mosts grasses don't grow.

This plant is a 'must-have' in any garden as the leaves contain slice, nitrogen, magnesium, iron and calcium. As it is also rich in calcium. Minerals, vitamins, proteins and especially potassium it make an ideal mulch for shrubs and seedlings, as well as vegetable plants, such as tomatoes and potatoes.

Harvest the leaves often, dry them in the sun and the mulch up and put in the garden.
