Commemorative Centenary Medal, USA, George Washington (1732-1799)

Designed and casted by Augustus Saint Gaudens (1848-1907).

According to an internet source:-

“This medal was Saint Gaudens's first official medallic commission, from the Committee on Art and Exhibition of the Washington Centennial Celebration. The medal was to be the official souvenir for the centennial of George Washington's swearing-in as first president of the United States on April 30, 1789 at New York's Federal Hall”.

One of these scarce medals was sold on 20 September 2017 by Baldwin's of St. James's  Auction 8 for £320.00 (R6 400.00).
