One of the passenger-friendly milestones during the 85 year history of South African Airways, were the deployment of WW.II ex-army issue of the 1940 Commer Commando Coachesﾠin the airline's ground fleet,ﾠconsiderably shorteningﾠdistances between Johannesburg + Pretoria early city terminals to SAA's then newﾠoperational base at Palmietfontein Airport (1948) - here presenting the perfect Oxford replica 1:76 scale model, proudly sporting the Springbok emblem of the day. Long afterﾠSAA had occupiedﾠthe Jan Smuts Airport terminal facilities at Kempton Park, theseﾠcoachesﾠalsoﾠconnectedﾠ passengers fromﾠcheck-in gates toﾠfurther away (apron parked) aircraft and vice versa, as some 'early passengers' may wellﾠremember from SAA's more profitable days.
