One of the passenger-friendly milestones during the 85 year history of South African Airways, were the deployment of WW.II ex-army issue of the 1940 Commer Commando Coaches in the airline's ground fleet, considerably shortening distances between Johannesburg + Pretoria early city terminals to SAA's then new operational base at Palmietfontein Airport (1948) - here presenting the perfect Oxford replica 1:76 scale model, proudly sporting the Springbok emblem of the day. Long after SAA had occupied the Jan Smuts Airport terminal facilities at Kempton Park, these coaches also connected passengers from check-in gates to further away (apron parked) aircraft and vice versa, as some 'early passengers' may well remember from SAA's more profitable days.
