Graphics cards, often referred to as GPU’s are computer components which produce the images displayed on a computer screen - they essentially convert numbers into images. The better the graphics card, the better the images it can produce. Having a good graphics card is, of course, very important people who require high-quality graphics rendering.
There are a number of things to consider when contemplating which GPU to purchase
Type: There are two main types of graphics cards: integrated and discrete graphics cards.
Integrated graphics cards are typically built into the motherboards of PC’s and laptops. They tend to be cost-effective, but also low in performance. If you use your computer for standard tasks like surfing the internet, creating documents or running basic programs, then you will be fine using the integrated graphics. Thes cards however, are not ideal for gaming or other visually intensive operations.
Discrete GPU’s on the other hand, are dedicated, standalone units which offer superior performance. They can range from relatively low-cost, entry-level options all the way up to incredibly powerful and expensive GPUs. Gamers, graphics designers and video editors would probably require higher end dedicated GPU’s.
Price: One of the most important considerations when purchasing a GPU is price. You get what you pay for in terms of performance, so it is important to know your specific needs and align them with the right GPU that can meet them. That being said - higher end graphics cards can be extremely expensive, and you wouldn’t want to overspend on a GPU if the other parts in your computer, such as the processor are not up to standard.
Brand: The two main brands when it comes to GPU’s are AMD and Nvidia. Both brands have strong product offerings and compete with each for leadership in the GPU market.
