Conde de Osborne Solera Gran Reserva Brandy de Jerez 50 ML minitiure 1968
In 1964, Salvador Dalà designed the bottle and label for Conde de Osborne Solera Gran Reserva Brandy de Jerez. Dalà was paid 300,000 pesetas, about 5,000 Euros âe" a tidy sum in 1964 âe" for designing both bottle and label. Dalà came through with a typical, surreally influenced bottle, which was then forged commercially in a mold made by sculptor Javier Corberó in Barcelona. The prototype for the milky glass decanter was hand blown by Vidreras Catalanas, and is topped with an indigo ceramic stopper created by potter Antoni Cumella.
More square than round, with a crooked neck and green wax melted over the cork, the bottle was painted the color of skim milk. Two clear patches interrupted the coloring, symbolizing what the artist said were the tears of creation.
The label depicts DalÃâe(tm)s grisly construal of the Osborne family crest: a dripping, blue-blooded bullâe(tm)s heart, underneath a crown that looks like itâe(tm)s made of thorns rather than gold.
T have been 4 variations of the bottle through the years while the label has remained the same. This bottle is the first edition and as such is quite rare and valuable. It is still factory sealed with no leaks or evaporation. My family bought this Dali signed collectable while on a skiing trip to the Lake Geneva Playboy club in the mid 70s. It has a Wisconsin state tax stamp that has a small missing piece.
