Conophytum bilobum Seeds
Horned Buttons, Living Pebbles, Cone Plants
Conophytum is a genus of South African and Namibian succulent plants that belong to the family Aizoaceae. The name is derived from the Latin conus and Greek phytum. The plants are also known as knopies, waterblasies, sphaeroids, conos, cone plants, dumplings, or button plants. They are well adapted to pot culture and are quite happy on a sunny windowsill. In their distribution range they do well in rockeries. Next to Lithops, Conophytum is the most popular genus of the Mesembs. Conophytum bilobum, commonly known as Living Pebble, is a South African endemic succulent. The plant is known to be very small with only short stems that are only able to reach around 7.5 cm tall and around 3 cm in diameter. The plants most notable feature are the bright green triangular leaves that sometimes have a purple line on the top like when hard grown. When the plant flowers you can expect it to produce bright yellow to orange flowers from autumn. The specific epithet bilobum comes from the two-lobed bodies these plants possess.
