Contact is a well illustrated documentary and pictorial profile of the war and on the Rhodesian Armed Services in the terror war against the insurgents. John Lovett writes in clinical detail of the country’s military tradition, of the political origins of the conflict at the time and of the history and nature of the operations against terrorism. He devotes several substantial and dramatically illustrated chapters to the security forces.
The book also features the reproduction, in full, of many citations, which have accompanied awards for gallantry since 1966. It includes detailed lists of participants, Roll of Honour, photos, portraits, illustrations (some in color). There's an extensive section of Rhodesian medals and awards. Most definitely the definitive book on the Rhodesian Security Forces and on the Rhodesian War.
This book includes the "good" Selous Scouts picture on page 90. This picture created a problem as it included former pilot turned Selous Scout Mike Borlace. Borlace was on a plainclothes spy mission in Zambia, and there was concern about publishing his photo. Subsequent printings replaced this picture with another.
The pages are tight, clear and in very good condition throughout. The boards have scuff-marks all over. With gilt stamped emblem and titling. Spine title damaged by the scuff marks. Price marked down substantially to compensate.
Book review (Amazon):
"This is an extraordinary book that displays the hopes of a people trying to keep alive a country of value. Ultimately, they failed but the cause is remembered through this book and others. It descibes their efforts, sacrifices, and valor, something that should not be forgotten."
Please note: This book is bigger than normal and quite heavy.
