Clarity
Clarity refers to the amount of blemishes and chemical inclusions within the stone. The grades of clarity are given below:
IF - Internally Flawless
VVS - Very, very Small
VS - Very Small Inclusions
SI - Small Inclusions
I - Heavily Included
Colour
Diamonds are given a letter designation which defines how colourless a diamond is.
D is the most clear and valuable and the scale proceeds down to N which is usually a dirty yellow.
Diamonds also occur in coloured varieties (termed Fancy) which are among the worlds most valuable stones.
Carats
A carat is the unit of weight by which a diamond is measured.
Because large diamonds are less common than small diamonds, the price of a diamond rises exponentially to its size.
