Contributions to the Geology of the Barberton Mountain Land. Special Publication No.9,  The Geological Society of South Africa 1983 National Geodynamics Programme Barberton Project. 1983

Hardcover, fold out maps 224 pages, illustrated, includes large colour map of the Barberton greenstone belt and surrounding granite terrane in the Eastern Transvaal and Swaziland (in pocket on inside back board), 21.5 cms x 30.3 cms, condition: as new.

The Barberton Mountain Land, specifically the Barberton Greenstone Belt, has significantly contributed to our understanding of early Earth geology by providing exceptionally well-preserved rock sequences dating back 3.6 billion years, offering insights into the formation of the first continental crust, evidence of early life forms, meteorite impact events, and the composition of the ancient atmosphere, making it a unique geological site for studying the planet's early history; particularly notable is the presence of komatiite volcanic rocks, a rare rock type indicative of extremely hot mantle conditions in the early Earth.
