Self-proclaimed cook (not chef) Justin Bonello leaps from the great outdoors into the kitchens of experienced chefs to learn the ropes. Along the way he discovers tricks of the trade and life lessons from South African food experts.
Culinary genius, Justin Bonello is the owner of Cooked in Africa Films and host of Cooked - the popular cooking adventure show, broadcast by BBC Food.
I enjoyed this book for a number of reasons:

1. it's about Justin Bonello (who I'd never heard of before borrowing this book from the library, he seems to be an amateur cook, with a cooking show) going around to 13 South African restaurant kitchens and learning stuff, so I've learnt a little bit about restaurants in SA

2. it's the first cookbook I've read where the author is quite blatant about not liking some foods, e.g. "Couscous still isn't a favourite of mine but the recipe which follows is the only way I'll ever eat it." and "I can't stand cooked sultanas - they always remind me of ticks exploding in my mouth."

3. each of the chefs is very different, some of them quite inspiring, and it's great to read about how they run their kitchens

Fun!
