Cooking Mama World: Outdoor Adventures(known as Camping Mama: Outdoor Adventuresin North America) is a spin-off of the Cooking Mama series for the Nintendo DS that focuses on camping and survival-themed mini-games rather than kitchen-based cooking. The game takes Mama, Papa, and their children, Ichigo and Ringo, to Adventure Island for a family vacation where the player participates in various outdoor activities.
Gameplay Overview
The game primarily uses the Nintendo DS stylus and touchscreen controls, consistent with the main series, but applies them to wilderness tasks. The core gameplay involves completing a series of short, timed mini-games to progress through 38 different levels, or "stages", across five areas of the island (forest, mountains, seas, etc.).
Players can choose to control either the son (Ringo) or daughter (Ichigo), with guidance provided by either Mama or Papa.
Activities and Features
The game features over 100 different mini-games covering various outdoor skills and tasks. These activities are categorized into four main types:
- Cooking: Preparing food using outdoor methods, such as peeling bananas, cutting mangoes, or grilling fish and clams on a barbecue.
- Making (Crafting): Crafting useful items for survival, including making a spider catcher, a fishing pole, a net, or building a bonfire.
- Action: Engaging in physical tasks like catching fish, cutting down trees, rock climbing, swimming, rowing a boat, or using a slingshot.
- Answer (Thinking): Activities that involve identification or counting, such as identifying jungle objects, counting a ladybug's spots, or matching cloud shapes.
Collectibles and Customization
As players complete challenges and explore the island, they can find hidden treasure and other items. These collectibles serve two main purposes:
- Base Camp Decoration: Found items can be used to decorate the family's tent campsite.
- Picture Book/Scrapbook: Players can document their discoveries of insects, fish, and treasure in a family scrapbook, encouraging exploration to find everything.
- Character Customization: Players can change the clothes and appearances of their characters.
