erschel Green known as Herky was a very popular leader and commanded the 317th FS from March to September 1944 .At this time they were the only P-47 group within the Fifteenth Air Force and the leadership of Green made it one of the most successful groups of the Second world war.Like all Greens aircraft this P-47 carried the number 11.
