Cornelis Jacob Langenhoven, Author of `Die Stem`, 50th Anniversary of Death Cased Silver Medal

A Medal to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Death of Cornelis Jacob Langenhoven (1873-1932). Langenhoven was a prominent Afrikaans writer, poet and journalist. He is known as 'die Vader van Afrikaans' for his efforts to establish and gain official acceptance of the language. In 1918, he wrote the words for the national anthem, 'Die Stem van Suid-Afrika'. 

Sterling Silver. Proof-like. Stamped on the edge with the Cape Mint hallmarks. Diameter 32.8 mm. Mass 31.1 gm. Comes inside an oblong fitted case of issue from the South African Historical Mint.
